Fabric Quality and Durability.

Not all fabrics are the same. Quality and durability can never be the same on everything. For longer life, durability in a cat-filled space, choose fabrics that have the following characteristics:
Why look for a high-performance fabric?
High-performance upholstery fabrics are designed to be more stain-resistant, making them ideal for homes with cats. They offer an added layer of protection, giving you peace of mind knowing your furniture can withstand the wear and tear.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS TO LOOK FOR IN A DURABLE HAIR SOLUTION FABRIC
The three fabric certifications below are what you need for a fabric to be considered durable for use in a home with cats.
Tensile strength (ISO 13934-1) and Tearing strength (ISO 13937-3). The tensile strength test measures the force required to break a piece of fabric and shows how strong it is compared to other fabrics of its type. If a fabric is made of fibers that stretch easily, it will be more likely to show wear after repeated use. The tensile strength test measures the strength of the fabric and the percentage of elongation until rupture (mainly for upholstery fabrics). The tearing strength test measures the amount of force required to tear the fabric (mainly for upholstery fabrics).
Seam slippage (ISO 13936-2). The seam slippage test measures the movement of the fabric at the seam (mainly for upholstery fabrics). Seam slippage is the separation or pulling of threads in a fabric usually along a sewn seam or joint. Seam slippage usually occurs in joints that are subject to high load and pressure, such as seat cushions and armrests. Some furniture styles put more stress on the fabric seams, such as bathtub chairs and furniture with fixed backs or seat cushions.
Dimensional stability in fabrics (ISO 3759:2011) Dimensional stability refers to how stable a piece of fabric is over time. If it shrinks or stretches, losing its shape easily, it won’t last as long. That’s why this test is important when choosing upholstery fabrics for your home. You want something that will stand the test of time without losing its original shape and size. If you stretch the fabric from its natural state, then it will return to its original size after being released – this property is what we call “resilience”.
